New Breathing Apparatus (BA) for Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) 2012

Firefighter training

In 2012 NFRS rolled out new BA which will continue to develop to include Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) telemetry systems. This ‘telemetry system’ is made up of a radio frequency transmitter/receiver mounted to the BA, which transmits information about the SCBA to a transmitter/receiver base station located with the Incident Command Centre.

In short, this will allow Incident Commanders to monitor how much breathable air each firefighter using BA within an incident, has remaining. This provides us with further assurance in terms of safety critical working environments to which our firefighters are exposed.
