In partnership with Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS), Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) are supporting the Don’t drink and drown campaign and want to remind our communities to be safe coming up to Christmas time.
Don’t Drink and Drown is a national campaign that warns drinkers to steer clear of walking by or entering water when under the influence of alcohol. Please see the campaign video below:
The main points of this campaign are:
- Look out for your friends, make sure they get home safely
- If you’ve had a drink, stay away from the water
- Find an alternative route home, don’t walk home near the water
- Stay away from the water in winter, cold water shock kills
More than 60% of people who drowned whilst intoxicated had no intention of being in the water and most people who fell in had walked near water alone. Don’t let your friends walk home on their own. Stick together, nobody gets left behind. #BEAMATE #DontDrinkandDrown
Ross Irwin tragically lost his life on 23 December 2016 after falling into a river, to read Ross’ case study visit the RLSS website.
NFRS would like to remind you all to adhere to the Tier 2 restrictions which have been put in place for the County, not only will this reduce the risk of any potential COVID-19 related risks but also the risks of alcohol and water safety. For further guidance on the local Tier system, please see the Governments advice.
