Charity car wash raises £1,400 for two good causes

Firefighters washing cars at Wellingborough charity car wash

Fire fighters and fire staff from Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service volunteered their time on Saturday (29th May) at a Covid secure charity “drive through” car wash and coffee morning at Wellingborough Fire Station on Irthlingborough Road. The event was a huge success raising £1,400 for two charities.

Around 140 visitors brought their cars to the fire station to be cleaned by their local fire fighters and fire staff in return for a donation to support The Firefighters Charity and Macmillan Cancer Support. Visitors also enjoyed a takeaway coffee and a cake as an extra treat before they left.

Crew Commander Ronnie Sherratt, organiser for the event, was delighted with the turn out; “The cancellation of many fundraising events during the pandemic has caused a significant income loss to many charities. That’s why we wanted to get behind a couple of charities close to our hearts and set up the car wash as soon as we were able to.

“I would like to thank all the fire service staff who gave up their time to help at the car wash, or by providing sweet treats, and also to the local community who generously donated to the two fantastic causes.”

The Fire Fighters Charity offers specialist, lifelong support for members of the UK fire services community, supporting individuals to achieve mental, physical and social wellbeing throughout their lives.
