Volunteer and make a difference to your community

Do you have some spare time? Are you over the age of 18? Do you want to make a difference where you live or work in Northamptonshire?

We’re looking for people to join our Emergency Services Volunteers throughout the county, supporting the work of Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) and East Midlands Ambulance NHS Trust

The scheme has a number of volunteering opportunities enabling our frontline colleagues to focus on public safety and patient care.

Below are the latest opportunities for volunteering with Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service:

Volunteer Community Safety Advocate
Volunteer Logistics Support
Volunteer Joint Operations Team Support
Volunteer Administrative Support
Volunteer Recruitment Support

Opportunities include:

  • Training/HR
  • Administrative support
  • Recruitment
  • Driving/logistics
  • Community outreach/safety advocate

Many of the roles can be designed to fit to your availability; dependant on the role. Some experience would be beneficial but isn’t necessary with training provided.

All volunteers are supported with a comprehensive training package including:

  • Fire hazard spotting/first aid
  • Health and safety
  • Infection prevention
  • Safeguarding

We are currently reviewing our volunteer recruitment process, details of how to apply for a volunteer role will be available in due course.

The process will include:

  • Attending an informal chat or recruitment evening
  • Completion of a health questionnaire
  • Completion of a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check
  • Providing a reference
  • Completion of mandatory training necessary for the volunteer role along with other volunteers
  • Signing our Volunteer Charter which explains our expectations of you as a team member with the emergency services, and, just as importantly, what you should expect from us

There are eight modules of mandatory training that need to be done, these include:

  • Conflict resolution
  • Equality, diversity and human rights
  • Fire safety
  • Health, safety and welfare
  • Infection prevention and control
  • Information governance
  • Manual handling
  • Safeguarding
