Northampton Pride 2021

Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service is supporting Northampton Pride 2021

Northampton Pride 2021

At Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service we are committed to ensuring equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) are at the heart of the service we offer to our communities and across all of our workforce. We have a team of passionate people who are driving the EDI agenda in Service to help build a better future for the next generation of fire fighters and fire staff.

As part of our commitment we actively support activities that highlight and celebrate the benefits of EDI and will attend events in the county, such as Northampton Pride on Sunday 12th September.

Last month, fire fighter Hazel Clements along with colleagues joined a village Pride event. Hazel said: “We were delighted to have the opportunity to attend a family friendly Pride event in Deanshanger on behalf of NFRS. I’ve been to my fair share of Pride events in cities, but the concept of a small village event was new to me. I didn’t know what to expect, but it was great!

“The work that had gone into this event was inspirational. Sometimes people question the relevance of Pride in today’s society, but, as someone who grew up with Section 28 (Google it…) still firmly in place, it was heart-warming to see an entire community come together to celebrate diversity.

“People joined from all walks of life, donning their best rainbow accessories to show their love and support and have a good time. That’s what Pride is all about! We may have been promoting our fire safety messages, showing off our fire appliance to the cadets and recruits of the future, but more than that, we felt like we were part of the celebration.Northampton Pride 2021

“Whoever you are, I’d love to see you at a local Pride event this year – get involved or just turn up. You never know how much it may mean to someone and I can guarantee you will have a great time.”

You do not have to identify as LGBTQ+ but can attend an event as an ally. Pride is a celebration of people coming together to show how far LGBTQ+ rights and the fight against homophobia have come.

Join us at Northampton Pride. The parade will start from Abington Street at 11.00am and arrive at Market Place at 11.15am where there will be live entertainment until 4.00pm. Crews from Mereway and The Mounts will join the Northamptonshire Emergency Service Cadets, Police & EMAS and hopefully thousands of others to show their support.
