Large fire at industrial premises in Kettering started accidentally

Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service has concluded that a large industrial fire in Kettering on Tuesday (June 23) started accidentally.
Crews were called to the premises on Brunel Close, just off Northfield Avenue, before 1.30pm. On arrival at the scene they found an industrial shed was on fire, in which there were a large quantity of aerosol cans and paint being stored.
Northfield Avenue was closed to allow access for emergency services vehicles, and the large smoke plume meant nearby residents and businesses were asked to close their doors and windows.
By 4pm the fire was largely under control, and the smoke plume had reduced significantly. One appliance remained on site to continue damping down any remaining hotspots. The Fire Service left the scene shortly before 11.30pm after a full thermal scan of the site was completed.
Crews will return at regular intervals today to monitor any remaining hotspots due to the hot weather.
We would like to thank nearby businesses and residents for their patience and understanding while we dealt with this incident.
